Posted by editor on 09/04/15

Looking for something to do for the holiday weekend in the Port Chester area? CORNucopia is here for Labor Day Weekend! Sleepy Hollow is not too far from us here at The Castle- less than a 20 minute drive away and CORNucopia is sure to bring you a great time. Activities that combine the end of summer and beginning of fall excitement will be happening all day long. Learn all about corn, play corn themed featured games, tour the Phillipsburg Manor, or venture through a corn maze and enjoy some folk music!

Taking place Saturday September 5th through Monday September 7th at Philipsburg Manor CORNucopia will be held from 10am until 5 pm each day. In addition to traditional corn you can expect treats such as corn bread, corn chili, sweet corn ice cream, and corn salsa with corn chips! Besides all the delicious food, corn themed activities are scheduled through the day and some at select times.

Several hands on activities will be part of the weekend fun. Broom making is just one of many you can choose to participate in this weekend. This creative activity allows you to make mini broomsticks to take home made with broom corn. You can also make a scarecrow of your very own, create a doll from cornhusks and take part in bean sorting gmaes. Other activities include Konk a Crow, Ring a Cob, Corn Run, and a Mini Cornhole Tournament games. Demonstrations of historic cooking as well as demonstrations of the world’s oldest milling tools will also be happening all day.

At 12 and 4 pm each day there will also be Country Dancing happening in the barn where you can show off your best moves. Every hour on the half hour from 10:30 until 4:30 there will be a Corn Shucking contest. Lavada Nahon will present special cooking demonstrations in addition to the others throughout the day at 11am, 1 pm and 3pm. Last of the special activities is a tasting and talk from The Blue Pig Ice Cream. Lisa of The Blue Pig of Croton On Hudson will give guests a special scoop on their homemade sweet corn ice cream.

Tickets for this fun filled event are on sale now! You can purchase them online and learn more about the weekend’s activities on the Hudson Valley website.
