Posted by editor on 10/05/15

The month of October brings wonderful fall weather, apples, pumpkins and traditional seasonal events in the Westchester area. This year there are several Oktoberfest Craft Beer events close to Port Chester that our future residents at The Castle can enjoy!

The biggest Oktoberfest event taking place in Westchester County this year will be held in White Plains, only a ten minute drive from Port Chester! Sunday October 11th enjoy live music, great German food, and beer at this local event. The 7th Annual White Plains Oktoberfest takes place on Mamaroneck Avenue between East Pond Road and Maple Avenue. The Street will be closed off making it easy to walk around and enjoy the fun! All you need is a valid ID and purchase of the event wristband for a cost of $5.00. You can then enjoy beer from tap that is set up outside so you don’t have to make your way into each bar.

Local businesses that will be participating in this years Oktoberfest include The Brazen Fox, Hudson Grille, Black Bear Saloon, Brother Jimmy’s BBQ, Ron Blacks Beer Hall and several others. Alpine Squeeze and DJ Kaos will provide live music entertainment for the day. The event starts at 2 PM and wristbands can be purchased at the event.

Another local craft beer festival will take place close to Port Chester in the neighboring town of Elmsford. The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry and Captain Lawrence Brewing Company will host their annual Cooktoberfest on October 25th this year at the Elmsford Brewery. These tickets are $75 a piece, but a ticket includes food, beer and live music so you won’t have to dish out much cash in addition to your ticket purchase.

From 1-4 PM at this event you can relish in savory German foods such as homemade doughy pretzels, homemade sausages, fermented cabbage and other traditional favorites. Pair your meal with seasonal pumpkin ale or the craft beer of your choosing—or try a few! You can buy your tickets here and learn more about the event upcoming in Elmsford.

If you don’t mind taking a trip a little further up the Hudson Valley, Bear Mountain will host their Oktoberfest every weekend now until October 25th where you can enjoy the festivities from 12pm-6pm. This event is free with a small fee for parking. Live music featuring a different band each weekend will provide entertainment and several vendors will provide food and beer for all visitors to enjoy! You can go here for more information on their event and see the list of bands.
