Project Grand Slam in Port Chester

Posted by editor on 08/08/16

On August 12th you can catch Project Grand Slam  at Garcia’s in Capital Theatre located right across from our apartment complex. Project Grand Slam is an acclaimed Fusion band (a blend of jazz and rock music) led by bassist/leader/composer Robert Miller.  Robert was born into a musical family and was obsessed with the Beatles at a young age.  At 19 he was lucky enough to begin private studies with Jimmy Garrison and started his own band The Robert Miller Group in the 90’s.  The band performs at many jazz festivals all over the country.

Project Grand Slam combines rock, jazz and your favorite sounds of a jam band.  If you haven’t heard of them, you may have heard of some of the performers they’ve opened for such as Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and 4-time Grammy Award nominee Boney James.  They also have monthly residence at The Groove in New York City.  Miller started the band in 2007 and they released 2 CD’s by 2012.  Two songs from the albums were top radio singles, “The Captain of Her Heart” and “Catch You Later.

Their next singles “New York Groove” and “Fire” (a re-make of the Jimi Hendrix classic) both feature Kat Robichaud from “The Voice” who made it to the semi-finals in 2013.  The videos have been viewed over 150,000 times and have great reviews.

This month the band will release their new album “The Queens Carnival” featuring nine original tunes written by Robert Miller.  A favorite off the album is “You Really Got Me” originally by the Kinks. Miller considers this a breakthrough album for him and the band.
