November 15th is National Clean Out your Refrigerator Day

Posted by editor on 11/15/18

As we take on more “living our best lives” the days seem to all run into one another, and before you know it we are less than a week from Thanksgiving. Do you have a plan? What is that unidentifiable odor coming from your lovely Castle kitchen? There is nothing like the proclamation of a “national day” to get us in the right frame of mind. With our biggest foodie holiday right around the corner, it is a good time to take on the challenge!

Just before the Y2K craze in 1999, several home economists at Whirlpool decided on this day to remind people to clean out their refrigerators to accommodate Thanksgiving’s bounty and leftovers. Although there is no longer a need for a toll-free hotline for cleaning tips here are some suggestions on how you can observe this day in your state of the art gourmet Castle kitchen. Hoping you will not find a forgotten left over way in the back. Get your rubber gloves ready!

Some suggestions for cleaning your Energy Star stainless steel refrigerator are to start by empting each shelf and bin and washing each one with soapy water then dry thoroughly. Once empty, completely wipe down the inside walls and underneath the drawers where splashes may have occurred. Check dates on condiments before replacing them in the door cubbies as this is a great time to toss anything that you do not use or like. Since you live in a “pet-friendly” community and many have furry friends, it is a good reminder to vacuum underneath including the condenser coils where pet hair and dust collect. You may even find a lost blueberry or pet toy under there!

You are now ready to restock so head out to one of the many great choices found within 10 minutes of your Castle apartment. Here are just a few great finds in time for the BIG day – Gobble gobble!

The Kneaded Bread – One of Port Chester’s pride and joy celebrating 20 years. The line starts early Thanksgiving morning as they distribute warm doughnuts to patient and willing patrons ready to receive. Be sure to try the Aged Provolone loaf with its crisp salty edges. Get it sliced for that late night leftover turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich!

Balducci’s – Know as a NYC favorite since 1916, now this beautiful store is in your Port Chester backyard less than 10 minutes from your Castle apartment. A large variety of fall inspired local produce will fill those clean bins and enhance any of your family recipes. There is a Sommelier on staff to help you choose just the right wine and craft beer whether hosting at The Castle or bringing a treat for Thanksgiving Day. Remember to restock your fridge too!

Path Coffee Roasters – Purchase freshly roasted coffee online 24/7. By appointment you can pick up at the LAB where they are roasting and they will instruct you on how you can be a professional barista when you return home to your very own Castle kitchen. Their custom built lab and training space will help you to become one with your coffee!

Now you are ready for Turkey day with a refrigerator that is beautiful both inside and out! Show it off – why not take a photo and tag your post with #TheCastle and #CleanOutYourRefrigeratorDay for your social media.
