Pumpkin Picking in October

Posted by editor on 10/03/19

September may be the season where everyone hits the orchards, but in October it’s the Pumpkin Patch! It may not feel like farm country over here in Port Chester, around your Castle apartment, but just a short drive North on 84 and you’ll be right in the middle of the country! There are a few pumpkin patches within 30 minutes of us, take a trip one of these weekends to get your jack-o-lantern!

Harvest Moon Orchards – Less than thirty minutes away up 84 you can find Harvest Moon Orchards, your everything fall destination. While you might have been there last month for the apples, this month you can find an abundance of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, as well as fall baked goods, decoration items, corn mazes and other family fun. Beware though, this place gets VERY busy on weekends, so you might have to head our early if you don’t want to get stuck in traffic.

Dykeman’s Pumpkin Patch – A family owned business since 1974, Dykeman’s is located a bit farther north in Dutchess County, about 50 minutes from your Castle apartment. This place is an authentic as it gets! You’ll get to ride a hayride out into their fields, where you’ll be dropped off and ready to hunt – for pumpkins that is! Trudge the field and search for your perfect gourd, or stick closer to the parking lot and keep you boots clean while shopping their array of already picked pumpkins. Either way, you’ll end up with a fresh pumpkin ready for Halloween, and the best part? This place is still pretty off the radar, so you won’t have to worry about any crowds!
